Official application essentials

• Eligible short-term overseas drivers can apply for a three-month temporary permit; stays longer than three months may qualify for an extension up to one year.
• Apply online through the official system, at traffic-management service stations at Hainan entry-exit ports, or at the local vehicle management office for your residence.
• Prepare a passport or valid entry/exit ID, a foreign driving licence with certified Chinese translation, and two recent one-inch colour photos with a white background.
